Salem Garden Club's annual Christmas Boutique is held the first weekend in December. The Boutique features fresh wreaths, centerpieces, swags, boxwood trees, and a variety of holiday decorations and ornaments. Each item is handmade by the members of the club. The Boutique is a unique event and just the thing to find that something special to trim your own home for the holiday or to find a gift for someone special. The money raised at this event is reinvested into the community through the Salem Garden Club's civic endeavors.
Salem Garden Club members decorate one of the tour houses on the Christmas in Salem House Tour. We garnish the selected home in accordance with the house's style and time period. Decorations are handmade by the Garden Club members. They consist of fresh greenery, floral arrangements, tree trimmings, and window dressings that emphasize the elegance and grace of the Historic Salem home. Photos below show some of the beautiful arrangements created for Emmerton House, the home of the Woman's Friend Society.
The Garden Stroll is a biennial event. In July 2015, the Salem Garden Club presented The Seaside Garden Stroll, a mid-summer tour of beautiful traditional and Japanese gardens in the neighborhoods around the Forest River Park. Visitors strolled into and around some of the most charming gardens in the city of Salem. Complimentary refreshments of lemonade and cookies were served to the strollers along the route, while local musicians and artists were featured in several of the gardens. Proceeds of the event help fund the many civic gardening projects and scholarship offered by the Club.
The Salem Garden Club closed out their year with a dinner held at the Hawthorne Hotel in June. The new club officers were introduced to the attending members. Ellen Sweet and Paula Contilli will be sharing the duties of President for the 2015-2017 seasons.
